LCD is still the mainstream technology, China's OLED enters mass production

     The "5th China OLED Industry Development Forum" co sponsored by China Optical and Optoelectronic Industry Association liquid crystal branch, international semiconductor equipment and Materials Association (semi) and China OLED industry alliance ended in Gu'an, Hebei Province on May 19. Industry experts revealed that China's OLED industry construction has begun to take shape and is in the transition stage from technology research and development to large-scale production.
 
The 5th China OLED industry development forum, with the theme of "getting rid of the fog, foreseeing new industries, new ecology and new opportunities", has attracted more than 300 domestic and foreign industry experts, display devices and key equipment and material supporting enterprises to participate. Experts believe that 2017 will be a year of vigorous development of China's display industry. The continuous mass production of panel generation line and the diversified development of various new display technologies will promote China's display industry to gain more say in the international display industry. The huge application potential of OLED display technology in TV, mobile terminals, VR, watches and other wearable devices, as well as the gradual recognition of domestic OLED panels by the market, will also provide explosive power for OLED display industry.
 
According to market research, the market share of OLED TVs in the US $3000 high-end market reached 65% in the first quarter and 100% in 55 inches, according to Li Tinghan of LG display, a global leader in display technology.
 
An Hui, director of the Institute of electronic information industry of China Academy of electronic information industry development, mentioned in the keynote speech of "current situation and trend of China's OLED industry development" that liquid crystal display is still the mainstream technology of new display. With the continuous popularization of OLED in smart phones, AMOLED is becoming a hot spot of industrial development. China's OLED industry has begun to take shape and is in the transition stage from technology research and development to large-scale production. In 2016, the total number of OLED panels shipped in China reached 6 million pieces, with three generation 5.5 lines, two generation 4.5 lines and two generation 6 lines already on the market. At the same time, the layout of OLED flexible panels is also speeding up. At present, new domestic production lines all contain flexible manufacturing process, and it is expected to gradually realize shipment in early 2018.
 
Wei Xing, marketing director of BOE's display business group, a major manufacturer of liquid crystal displays in China, revealed that BOE has identified the future market prospect of OLED. As early as 2001, BOE has established its first OLED experimental line. In 2015, BOE launched its sixth generation OLED production line in Mianyang. At present, the sixth generation Chengdu line has also been lit up. In the future, BOE will focus on new applications and technologies, and cooperate with customers to develop new technologies. In the future, mass production will mainly focus on Chengdu and Mianyang.
 
According to Huang Xiuqi, director of the 6th generation AMOLED project in Gu'an cloud Valley, the project started on October 29, 2016, and the product is expected to light up by the end of June 2018. The annual production capacity of the project is 90 million pieces, the product positioning is mainly flexible display screen, and the product is oriented to smart phones and smart wear. The start of the project will promote the economic transformation of Hebei Province, accelerate the upgrading of industry, promote the coordinated development of the region, and create a new display industry cluster.
