Chu Yuchao said that the key mass transfer technology in the manufacturing process of micro LED can be used to transfer micro led, as well as micro electronic components such as sensors, which makes the application of micro led more imaginative. Micro LED 还未正式商用,还有本身的技术瓶颈要打破,这场微米级竞赛,除了要制备数十微米的 LED ,厂商还比如何将这些微小的 LED 转移到基板、如何黏接、电路如何驱动,最后比的更是如何让一般显示技术高出 3~4 倍的成本下降。

2.Micro-LED潜在市场规模上看400亿美元;

继传统LCD (液晶)、OLED后,新一代显示技术Micro LED吸引苹果(Apple)、Sony与全球显示器供应链关注与投入。TrendForce LED研究(LEDinside)最新研究指出,厂商间正在努力克服Micro LED的高制造成本,推动Micro LED发展。若以全面取代现有液晶显示器的零组件规模来推估,包括背光模组、液晶、偏光板等,Micro LED未来的潜在市场规模约可达300~400亿美元。

LEDinside研究协理储于超表示,Micro LED在各应用别采用的LED芯片大小、巨量转移方式、驱动方案都有所不同,因此能创造的市场规模尚难估算,但若以取代现有显示器的零组件的规模来推估,市场规模仍不容小觑。

以目前大厂的动态来看,今年Sony在CES展出的Micro LED显示器──CLEDIS已在解析度、亮度、对比都有极佳的表现,已为Micro LED商品化之路迈进一大步。不过,根据LEDinside统计,目前Micro LED显示技术上带来的制造成本仍高达现有显示产品的3~4倍,因而厂商正积极透过增加产品附加价值,以及改善芯片、转移技术良率以达到成本下降目标,估计若要取代现有LCD产品还需3~5年的时间。

储于超指出,Micro LED制造成本居高不下,原因在于相关技术瓶颈仍待突破,如良率的提升、“巨量转移”(Mass Transfer)技术等,且由于涉及的产业横跨LED、半导体、面板上下游供应链,举凡芯片、机台、材料、检测设备等都与过去的规格相异,提高了技术的门槛,而异业间的沟通整合也增加了研发时程。

除了力求降本外,厂商也积极开发Micro LED的附加价值。储于超表示,Micro LED制造过程中关键的巨量转移技术可用来转移微型 LED,同时也可转移传感器等微小电子元件,让Micro LED的应用更添想像空间。未来无论在车用显示、VR装置,甚至是AR投影、光学感测、指纹辨识等领域,都有机会是Micro LED技术大放异彩的舞台.
